Mission
To provide Skills Training and Employment Program Services (STEPS) to children and adults with special needs.
Meeting A Need
Having hosted over 3,000 people annually from 72 different disability user groups, it is evident that many face challenges obtaining employment, returning to work, and with daily living skills. With the facilities currently available at camp, those job-related opportunities can be offered by Rotary’s Camp Florida. Our new program, “Next STEPs” will provide Skills Training and Employment Program Services to children and adults with special needs.
Eligibility for the Next STEP Program will be based on individual needs. Participants will be identified from current Camp user groups, from community programs, agencies that currently serve the disability population, special education centers, and from other nonprofits that are currently offering services for people with disabilities.
A Job Training Specialist will conduct a face-to-face interview with the potential participant, along with their parents or guardians if deemed appropriate. Initial classroom training will include job etiquette, work ethics, sexual harassment, appropriate social behaviors and some basic work skills. For participants who are deemed unable to work then the focus will be on independent skills training such as personal hygiene, basic cooking skills and cleaning your home. Class schedules to be determined.
